DIXON – Two city employees who received personal loans from embattled comptroller Rita A. Crundwell said Tuesday they believed her money came from her horse business.

Crundwell was arrested April 17 on a federal wire fraud charge; that day, the FBI seized documents and assets from her office at City Hall; her Dixon home and horse ranch; her company, RC Quarter Horses Inc.; and another horse ranch in Beloit, Wis.

The biggest problem I see with this is the fact that the AQHA, which does cater to the rich, is not going to pull the titles.....they have made statements (their judges have also) that THE MONEY DIDN'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Wow, talk about blinders! Anyone with 53 million can win world titles and everyone knows it.....you would not have to even know anything about horses to win world titles, just buy the stock, buy the trainers, buy the groomers, buy a new ranch, pay for the trips, etc., etc.......

You are very correct in that the focus is more on the outfits and silver saddles. Whatever happened to the true all-around horse and the regular show ring attire of years ago. This is absolutely shameful that AQHA (and other breed shows) are now based on "who is most blinged out" in the showring. It is absolutely outrageous that some of these outfits alone cost thousands of dollars and show saddles exceed 5-figures. AQHA and all breed shows need to get "back to the basics" - DO NOT LET FASHION dictate who wins and gets recognized. It's not surprising many people have left AQHA - even on a middle-class income it is no longer economically feasible for someone to enjoy showing. And who knows how many more Rita's are out there. The family week-end fun of showing and maybe placing have long been removed. It is all about "BIG DOLLARS" (show outfits, equipments, trainers, trucks, trailers). What happened to the true all-around horse - the horse a family could take to a show and show (and with hard work) could place with (or even win) in all events.

Did you see how little was left in those two accounts?!?!

AQHA - This is what you get when you take the focus off the horse and put it on the outfits and silver saddles. It's all just a big...show. Nothing more.

If you are currently a working member of society and also own horses then alert your sensibilities because I have always thought there is no way that she has been supporting that lifestyle and those horses on a comptroller job.....just saying......

Kudos

To GHS for allowing people to actually discuss things here fairly freely. On other "forums" and industry online magazines you are censored to the point of not being allowed to talk about this story at all. Ridiculous. Again, kudos to GHS for your sensibility in this respect. Wish you would create a forum so those aforementioned popular places would be for folks who want to sugar coat everything.

OMG

I just thought she was that rich...thats going to be some auction. how unbelievable is this? what was she thinking? you know that horse world is SOOO small and word gets around. arent they going further back beyond 2005 to see what else they can find ???

How could a town that size be so blind for so many years? She must have been one smart lady to pull the wool over so many eyes for so long. Can't believe she is out on only $4,500 bond. Think she was getting lessons from Madoff?? Big Brother was not watching her!!

They make no mention of the home in Florida she also owns. (Or Did) Wonder how long that will take to find. Can't imagine the piles of paperwork yet to be read
