MILWAUKEE – A million bucks. That was the minimum bid needed to buy Rita Crundwell’s mansion of a motor home.

But the sole bid fell short Wednesday, and now the U.S. Marshals Service must “regroup” and come up with a new plan after formally rejecting the offer, unsealed Wednesday afternoon, a spokesman said.

Jason Wojdylo, assistant chief inspector of the Marshal’s Asset Forfeiture Division, said he was surprised that the bid came in below the minimum.

“I expected that the bidder would have followed the terms and conditions,” he said, declining to say what the bid amount was or who it was from.

Marshals placed a solicitation online and advertised with all major RV clubs and associations, Wojdylo said. Local and national media also reported details of the auction.

Although it had a suggested retail value of $2.1 million, Crundwell bought the 2009 Liberty Coach for about $1.58 million in July 2008, according to marshals.

I think they were dreaming about getting $1 million for the motorhome. Used, luxury RVs are a dime a dozen right now. With the state of the economy and the price of diesel, they just really aren't selling. If the bid was anywhere close to $1 million, they should have taken the offer.

no surprise
Ultimately it'll end up costing the city and the Marshall's office more $$....just sell the thing, so that at least some of the money is recouped versus waiting on the bid and then deducting all the expenses since it was seized. Wonder if that means the horses will have minimum bids on them too?
