We now have funeral arrangements for AQHA Judge Chris Kozlowski of Galt, California who passed away July 25. His mother, Lea Kozlowski-Risso passed away last month. Chris is survived by his wife, Annalise and children Jaimin and Ciara.

There will be a Celebration of Life, Monday August 6th, at 12 noon at Murieta Equestrian Park, 7200 Lone Pine Drive, Rancho Murieta, CA. Everyone is welcome.

The Kozlowski Family Memorial Fund has been set up with Eldorado Savings Bank, PO Box 1340, Rancho Murieta, CA 95683 (916-354-2661).

"In my opinion, Chris was one of AQHA's best judges," AQHA Executive Director of Judges, Alex Ross told GoHorseShow. "I feel sure the majority of AQHA owners and exhibitors felt the same way. His longtime involvement in the quarter horse industry provided him with the diversified background to recognize and reward excellence in a variety of classes. Chris was a true horseman and he will be missed."

Fellow NRHA and AQHA judge and friend Mario Boisjoli says that he is deeply saddened by the passing of Chris.

"Chris was a true gentleman as well as great horseman," Mario says. "I remember when he came to my house and tutored me before I took my AQHA Judges Test. After I became an AQHA Judge, I was honored when Chris and his wife Anna-Lise hired me to judge for them. I have had the great pleasure to learn from him, judge with him and show under him as an exhibitor. He was always a class act. He will be missed greatly."

I had the privilege of Ring Stewarding for Chris several times, he was so knowledgeable and taught me so much.
My sincere sympathy to his Family.

Another funny story

A few years ago in one of our trail classes He and another judge where sitting in their chairs by the course. Must have been July, coats were off and he had a nice crisp white shirt on. Anyway the course was really tight. You had to go over the bridge and then swing the hind off and then back a L around the bridge. The only way was to stuff their head into the shrubs. It was a real trap. People lined up to see Webster go as he was a notorious bush grabber.

The lady judge ducked but Chris wasn't fast enough. He got it full bore in the chest. Dirt all over him with the tree resting in his lap. The other judge nearly fell out of her chair as she was laughing so hard. I just wanted to die.......LOL

I later showed to him again and in trail he looked at me and waggled his finger at me as we were starting....I silently prayed that the bush gods were looking after me that day. LOL

I'm sure he never forgot it......didn't help I was on a palomino.....lol

Chris's passing

I showed with Chris and his mom for many years at the west coast shows and I remember he and I had a water balloon fight on a day off while riding our horses. He was not only a champion rider but a champion person and professional. We all could learn a life lesson from both he and his mom.
Rest in Peace - your now with god, riding and training horses in the sky.

This is so sad. Chris judged several shows for us. We also had Andy Lark who was breed at their ranch. He was always very popular at the shows.

Some of my earliest shows were both at their family farm and also working as a co judge in Pomona 20 plus years ago. He was a great judge and friend. This is truly tragic news to the horse show industry. God bless you Chris, Cheryl Sarsi

funny story also

I remember showing once to Chris back in the late '90's on my old showhorse.

Towards the end of the trail pattern, we had a back up L, and I inadvertently pushed my gelding around the corner to hard, and he promptly lifted his hind and front legs and placed them outside the L...so he was literally straddling the pole. Luckily, he was broke enough, and I was able to move him back into the L, without touching the pole. As we finished up the pattern, and stopped at the cone, and I looked over at the judges....Chris jokingly says with a huge grin on his face 'you don't get extra credit points for the manuever on the L'.

Always a great judge, and a very sad loss for his family.

Funny Chris story.

The first time I met Chris.. I was at one of the first shows I had ever shown. I was at Old Washington ,Ohio ( Pit of a show grounds) standing around waiting for the office to open. In drives Chris.. He asks where everyone is & I said they weren't there yet.. The next words out of his mouth was .. How MANY earrings do you have.. He didn't use my horse or I to well all that day. So a couple of years later ... he's suppose t ojudge at the same place, same show.. I was telling the people waiting on the office to open.. about the first time I met Chris.. I told them I had a good retort for him this time. He pulss into the show grounds.. comes up to us & ask where the show management is.... the next words out of his mouth... You guessed it... How MANY earrings do you have... My reply... Above or below the waist...LOL!! Everyone on the bleachers was busting out laughing. He laughed & I won about every class that day & always did great showing to him after that. Prayers & sympathy to the family.. He was fun & will be missed.

OMG!!! I have a special memory. My horse blew a HUGE bugger aka loogie on his shirt front in Showmanship at halter. he looked down and back at me and said, "you werent planning on winning today, were you???"

He made me laugh at a VERY VERY embarrassing moment
