The American Quarter Horse Association today temporarily suspended AQHA member Shirley Roth of Ocala, Florida.

The temporary suspension, which includes suspension of her membership privileges and denial of access or presence on AQHA-approved show grounds, was based on the Association’s receipt of reports regarding the alleged inhumane treatment of the 2-year-old stallion Kissin The Girls, a horse entrusted to Ms. Roth’s care and responsibility. Both AQHA and NSBA received the reports in question and have been jointly investigating them.

According to AQHA rule 106(e)(1), a person temporarily suspended by AQHA shall be denied AQHA privileges until the Executive Committee can hear the matter and take appropriate action.

As with any reported case of inhumane treatment, AQHA will proceed accordingly, cooperate with officials and act as swiftly as reasonably possible.

From NSBA:

The National Snaffle Bit Association Animal Welfare Monitor reported that a horse, Kissin The Girls, had suffered alleged inhumane treatment. The report was filed during the NSBA approved event held at the Will Rogers Memorial Center, Fort Worth, TX. The trainer of the horse was NSBA member, Shirley Roth of Ocala, FL.

Rule 99, Disciplinary Procedure, H)1) allows the Association to temporarily suspend a member until a Disciplinary Hearing is held.

Ms. Roth was temporarily suspended September 19, 2012 and denied all participation and privileges of the NSBA and NSBA approved events to include but not limited to showing or having access or presence on the show grounds of an NSBA approved event.

The Association is continuing its investigation. A Disciplinary Hearing will be held when the investigation is completed.

AQHA needs to enforce the rules
This woman is obviously suffering from some mental disorder and should not be allowed to have in her possesion any animal or child. She is obviously out of control. However sadly she isn't the only one training horses that has little self control and uses inhuman and cruel training methods. I think if AQHA and NSBA are going to have a book of rules these trainers should have to follow them. It is time people stop turning their heads and making excuses for the sake of making a dollar and not caring one bit about the animals that are making them rich or the poor owners that are taken advantage of terribly.
Been there!

How many strikes till she's out?
Not the first time this woman has been in trouble for alleged abuse. How many more times will this behavior be tolerated before she is permanently banned from owning/showing horses? If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck. Enough already.

When is the abuse going to stop
That women and some more are as bad as michael vick and it goes on and on and why ? money its not a sport anymore its who has the most money and knows the most people and these poor animals are suffering because of no limitations Do u take ur kid and put mmarks on there face or bloody there butt so nobody can see it. What do u think a two year old horse thinks like. It should still be in a pasture growing up. You think its natural to hold its self together at that age. I feel sorry for these people when their judgement day come

Wow! Never have I ever wanted to win something so bad that I would inflict pain on an animal or steal from my community. It has been a tuff year for the AQHA. We stepped out of the horse world a little over 10 years ago, I still enjoy reading the horse world news and watching at the shows. I thought maybe someday I would enjoy owning another horse. Not so much now. I remember as a kid jumping out the truck at the open shows and running to the entry stand to see the beautiful, shiny trophies and huge rosette ribbons you could win that Sunday afternoon. Looking back I recall no matter how awful the ride was my Dad would say "getting a good ride honey" even in the beginning when we didn't know the right lead from the left. If you didn't win that day you enjoyed your homemade pie or a cool soda from the icy water tank set up at the cook shack. Those are memories I am left with. There are a lot of good people in the AQHA that will be lumped in with likes of the Shirley's and Rita's and it is shame. So for all of the Shirley's and Rita's out there. You missed it! You missed it big time! For those of you out there doing it the right way...."You're getting a good ride" Enjoy your day all!

A Sparkly Resume Doesn't Hide The Truth
Um, Pony? I believe gluing hide to the side of a horse to cover up bloody spur marks outweighs innumerable amount of championships. I don't care how much money you have. I don't care how many great horses you have raised. I don't care how many congress or world championships you have won.

Shirley Roth can no longer be apart of the horse industry. Period.

Ms. Roth is being temporarily suspended by NSBA until a formal disciplinary hearing is held. Surely there must be enough evidence of rule breaking to reach such a decision. Formal associations don't undertake such things lightly or on scant evidence, especially when someone's livelihood is at stake.

SHE MAY HAVE OVER TRAINED, BUT I DON'T THINK SHE IS A MONSTER. HOW COULD SHE BE SUCH A MONSTER WHEN SHE HAS TRAINED SOME OF THE TOP HORSES IN THE WORLD, WORLD CHAMPIONS, CONGRESS CHAMPIONS, EVERY MAJOR FUTURITY. ALL RESULTS SHOULD BE IN BEFORE THEY START NAILING HER TO THE CROSS.
